Recognising Safety and Security Efforts in the Public Transport Sector

The Public Transport Safety and Security Awards (PTSSA) was held today to recognise PT workers and operators for their efforts to ensure safety and security across our public transport network. Mr Murali Pillai, Minister of State for Law and Transport, attended the event with close to 400 award winners and representatives from the public transport sector.

2 Awards were presented to two main categories of recipients:

i. Excellence and Merit awards for operators; and
ii. Special Commendation and Star awards for PT Workers.

3 Awards for the operator category recognises rail, bus and point-to-point transport operators with the best safety records, and which have demonstrated strong commitment to commuter and workplace safety. Six awards were given out to five operators under this category.

4 The Special Commendation Award recognises PT workers for their swift and decisive actions in averting potential safety or security incidents. Among the 46 recipients of this award were PT workers who provided timely assistance to commuters and other road users in need. In addition, five individuals and 28 teams of PT workers were awarded the Star Award for developing new tools, systems and processes to enhance safety and security in the course of their work. Please refer to the Annex for the complete list of award recipients.

5 Forty-four PT workers were also appointed as Safety Champions, under a tripartite initiative aimed at promoting workplace safety and security. As Safety Champions, they will mentor their colleagues on the importance of safety and security in the workplace.

About the Public Transport Safety and Security Awards

With millions of journeys made on public transport daily, operational and workplace safety is critical to achieving our goal of safe and reliable rides. At the same time, given the open and accessible nature of public transport, coupled with the high volume of commuters, it is essential that public transport workers remain vigilant and alert to potential security threats. Inaugurated in 2022, the PTSSA acknowledges the efforts of our public transport operators and workers in helping to achieve these important safety and security outcomes.
