Union Pacific Investing in New Midwest Intermodal Terminal

Union Pacific is building a new intermodal terminal in the heart of America. The new terminal in Kansas City will provide customers in the growing Midwestern markets ease of access to Union Pacific's 23-state network, including ocean ports on the West Coast and the Gulf of Mexico.

Union Pacific's Kansas City Intermodal Terminal (KCIT) will be located west of downtown Kansas City, Missouri, on existing Union Pacific property. Construction is underway. The terminal will serve both domestic and international containerized shipments of grains, consumer goods, refrigerated products, and pet foods.

The Kansas City terminal is the fourth new intermodal ramp Union Pacific has built in the past few years, underscoring its commitment to expanding intermodal access across its railroad network. The new terminal will help to convert more truck traffic to rail, reduce congestion on the nation's highways, and lower greenhouse gas emissions.

"We are excited to offer shippers and receivers a centralized location to meet growing shipping demands in the Midwest. KCIT will offer shippers convenient and cost-effective access to our 32,000-mile network, with the ability to reach Mexico, Canada and overseas markets," said Kenny Rocker, Executive Vice President - Marketing and Sales for Union Pacific.

KCIT will expand Union Pacific's intermodal footprint by offering more capacity than Union Pacific's current Kansas City operation, and will be located in a fast-growing regional market that includes states such as Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri.

The new facility will accommodate substantial future expansion as the market grows.

KCIT will include Union Pacific's PGT gating system - technology developed by Union Pacific that scans a driver's equipment and speeds up the gating process, allowing truckers to quickly enter and exit the ramp.

The new terminal is expected to open mid-2025.
