Charting the Future: Shaddye Melu

Charting the Future: Shaddye Melu

In charting the future at Northwest, nothing carries greater importance than ensuring the spiritual life of our students. This summer, the opportunity arose to bring in a new leader for Campus Ministries. So we looked for a Jesus-focused, Spirit-filled, revival-fired person who knew the culture of the Pacific Northwest as well as that of Northwest University. We wanted a person with international experience, global vision, a missionary heart, a pastor's ear, and a herald's voice.

We didn't have to look far. Shaddye Melu (pronounced "Shaddai" as in "El Shaddai") lives right next door in Bothell, and he was already pursuing a master's degree at NU. Shaddye was born in London to missionary parents from Zambia, and he was raised in Seattle. His family fits perfectly into the paradigm of The New Pilgrims that I wrote about a few years ago-part of the generation of immigrant missionaries who are renewing America's faith and values. He has significant experience in youth ministry and a global following through his speaking ministry. For years he was a youth pastor at our largest student-sending church in Kirkland, so he was a perfect doctrinal and spiritual fit for Northwest!

You'll see his passion for revival among our students in this video, and we welcome you to join us for a chapel service at Northwest to hear him speak. He's currently on paternity leave but will speak next on November 6 at 10:10 a.m. in the Butterfield Chapel. You can also view our chapel speaker schedule online. Whether or not you can come and visit us for a midday chapel service or our student-led Pursuit worship nights on Mondays at 8 p.m., we hope you'll be supporting our campus ministries in prayer for revival! The spiritual tide this year has been very high, and we are expecting greater things to come!
