Nedap and Friesland Campina equip five Pakistani dairy farms with cow monitoring technology

Technology enables constant milk flow

Nedap, in partnership with FrieslandCampina, recently installed the CowControl monitoring system on five dairy farms in Pakistan. This step marks an important milestone in the joint efforts of both Dutch companies to improve milk production and cow health in emerging markets.

Nedap CowControl, which includes both health and heat detection, is designed to support dairy farmers in inseminating cows in a timely manner, quickly anticipating health issues and improving consistent milk production on farms. Sarfraz Ahmad, Dairy Development Manager FrieslandCampina Engro Pakistan, outlines the potential of cow monitoring: "With application of technology on dairy farms emerging in Pakistan, the system offers promising solutions to local challenges such as heat and humidity, which greatly affect cow health and productivity."

"The five selected demo farms in Punjab are each equipped with fifty SmartTags," explains Bas Driessen, Key Account Manager of Nedap Livestock Management. "This marks the beginning of a collaborative project aimed at optimizing consistent milk production and improving cow welfare and health." Muhammad Sohail Sarwar Chaudhary, Director Agri Business at FrieslandCampina in Pakistan, stresses, "Local conditions make it difficult for the staff on dairy farms to determine the right insemination moment for the cows. Nedap's technology helps us improve reproduction results and maintain continuous milk production."

The installation was completed in mid-2024, with Nedap itself on site to install the equipment and train the farmers. This project continues to be supported by FrieslandCampina's local dairy development team, FC Engro. Nedap and FrieslandCampina continue to work closely together to further integrate and expand the technology to more farms in Pakistan.
