State Police investigate Northway fatal crash

On October 1, 2024, at about 4:52 p.m., State Police responded to the reports of a two-car crash on I-87 northbound just north of the exit 14 off-ramp, which resulted in one vehicle overturning multiple times. The driver of the overturned vehicle has been identified as Makenzie T. Minkler, 25, of Rensselaer, NY. Minkler sustained severe injuries during the crash and was transported to Saratoga Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. The northbound Exit 14 off-ramp and the right lane of I-87 northbound were closed for approximately four hours for the investigation and collision reconstruction.

A secondary three-car crash was also reported due to vehicles reacting to the initial crash, which caused further traffic delays. No significant injuries were reported as a result of the secondary crash.
