Mesa is Moving Ahead with Plans to Improve EV Charging Citywide

Mesa has released a much-anticipated Request for Proposal (RFP) to make the Citys electric vehicle (EV) charging network more accessible and convenient for all its residents. The project aims to add at least 48 new vehicle charging ports with a total budget of $14,873,215, which includes a required 20% non-reimbursable local match of $2,974,644. The RFP responds to a $11.8 million award through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Laws Charging and Fueling (CFI) Discretionary Grant Program.

Today, there are at least 49 public EV charging stations with 118 ports in Mesa, serving over 3,200 City residents who drive electric vehicles. CFI grant funds will increase charging ports by 40% by strategically deploying additional public charging options across the City based on needs identified through Mesas Community Electric Vehicle Action Plan. Mesas enhanced EV changing network includes:

Four Neighborhood ChargingHubs with Level 2 and DCFC ports (16 ports at 19kW, 8 ports at 50-60kW) and e-bike/e-scooter charging

Two Fast Charging Hubs with 8 DCFC ports at 150-180k

Two Public Fleet ChargingHubs with 8 DCFC ports at 150-180kW and 8 DCFC ports at 50-60kW

Additionally, the proposal stipulates that all charging sites must include safe 24/7 public accessibility, solar canopies for shade and power generation, and ADA accessibility features.
