City of Alexandria to Host Stream Cleanup Event to Recognize the International Coastal Cleanup

The City of Alexandria invites the public to participate in a stream cleanup event at the Historic Holmes Run at Charles E. Beatley Library on Saturday, October 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

The event is hosted by the Department of Transportation and Environmental Services Stormwater Management Division as part of the City's Eco-City efforts to clean and protect our waterways and in recognition of the International Coastal Cleanup. Established more than 35 years ago by the Ocean Conservancy, its goal is to gather communities together to help clean and protect local coastlines and waterways. The City has participated in this effort for more than 15 years.

Event participants will meet at the Charles Beatley Library parking lot (5005 Duke Street) for a sign-in and event briefing before walking to Holmes Run.

The City will provide gloves, bags, and first-aid kits during the event. Participants are encouraged to dress appropriately, in long pants and covered footwear, and to bring water.
