DLA Distribution Pearl Harbor plays vital support role for 2024 RIMPAC exercise

NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. -

The Defense Logistics Agency Distribution, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, team played a vital role in the 2024 Rim of the Pacific exercise, the world's largest international maritime exercise, providing essential logistical and supply chain support.

This exercise, which takes place every two years, involves a vast array of naval forces from around the globe and is critical for enhancing maritime security and fostering international cooperation. This year's exercise involved nearly 30 nations, 42 surface ships, four submarines, 14 national land forces, more than 150 aircraft and more than 25,000 personnel.

"DLA Distribution Pearl Harbor, Hawaii's support of the 2024 RIMPAC exercise exemplifies their vital role in the success of large-scale international military operations in the region," said Rear Adm. Michael York, commander, DLA Distribution. "Their expertise in logistics and supply chain management facilitated the smooth execution of the exercise and will remain crucial in fostering international cooperation and enhancing operational readiness."

DLA Distribution Pearl Harbor, Hawaii's, military and civilian personnel managed and distributed a wide range of supplies and equipment necessary for the exercise's operational components, including coordinating the delivery of critical materials such as fuel, ammunition, and provisions to the participating naval units. In support of the exercise, the team received and processed over 10,000 requisitions, issued over 600 customer pick-ups, and expedited over 600 urgent casualty report parts and 54 cold chain items, all while maintaining support to homeported ships and submarines, the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, and Joint Service units on Oahu and throughout the Indo-Pacific.

"Our team participated in the RIMPAC exercise planning cycle alongside our Navy partners, and, through close coordination, ensured that exercise participants knew how to leverage the Distribution Center's capabilities," said Navy Cmdr. Sean Moody, commanding officer, DLA Distribution Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. "This planning also enabled DLA to surge a tailored group of expeditionary civilians and military that postured the Distribution Center to process the influx of exercise material seamlessly in our new Warehouse Management System."

Moody said the efforts of the staff are an example of the expertise that DLA brings when supporting the warfighter.

"I am extremely proud of this team, which came together with a singular focus on the mission," he said. "We have civilians, sailors, airmen, and soldiers working side-by-side supporting military units from nearly 30 nations. It is a great example of the capabilities that DLA brings to the fight."

This interoperability is a cornerstone of the RIMPAC exercise, which aims to improve the collective ability of participating navies to operate together in a coordinated manner. DLA Distribution Pearl Harbor, Hawaii's efficient logistics support helped facilitate smooth operations, allowing the participating forces to focus on their tactical and strategic objectives rather than logistical challenges.

According to Moody, the experience gained from supporting RIMPAC provides valuable insights and lessons that can be applied to future operations.

"There is always opportunity to improve," he said. "We can lean internal processes, refine our training and integration, and synchronize efforts with our fellow logistics providers in Oahu. We can find ways to contribute to a shared logistics sight picture across the Joint Force.

Ultimately, the lessons we learn during RIMPAC improve DLA Distribution Pearl Harbor, Hawaii's, ability to provide reliable and effective logistics support to the U.S. and its allies."
