Congressman Cohen Applauds Committee Passage of Water Resources Bill

WASHINGTON - Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today spoke in favor of and then voted for the Water Resources Development Act of 2024.

The vote to move the measure to the House floor was 61 to 2.

In opening remarks on the bill, Congressman Cohen said in part:

"This WRDA bill improves critical water resources infrastructure, empowers communities to engage with the Army Corps (of Engineers), responds to emerging threats from climate change, bolsters local economies, and boosts U.S. economic competitiveness and supply chains."

Congressman Cohen also noted the inclusion of projects he submitted such as the dredging of Pidgeon Harbor at Pidgeon Industrial Park, which will help support 500 jobs, including at Nucor Steel, and has an annual economic impact of $1.2 billion. The measure also includes the Hatchie-Loosahatchie Ecosystem Restoration Feasibility Study which will showcase a comprehensive approach to managing the Lower Mississippi River and address significant and historically important habitats in Tennessee and Arkansas
