The University of Montpellier confirms its high ranking in The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings . In its 6th edition, it maintains its status in the overall ranking of the world's top 101-200 institutions, and ranks among the top 3 French institutions for its long-standing commitment to sustainable development.

The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings aim to measure the commitment and performance of higher education institutions in terms of sustainable development. The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings are innovative in that they don't simply rank institutions on the basis of their research or teaching performance, but take a different, more societal approach. It is based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted in 2015 by the United Nations. A total of 1,591 universities took part in this fifth edition. Since the creation of this ranking in 2019, the University of Montpellier has been represented in it every year, enabling it to highlight its commitment to sustainable development and corporate social responsibility. This year, it features in the world's top 100 for 4 objectives, in line with the establishment's major themes: nourish, care for, protect.

" TheUniversity of Montpellier is honored to be recognized in the global top 200 and national top 3 of THE Impact Rankings in 2024. Our position, both in France and internationally, year after year, testifies to our determination and strong commitment to sustainable development. This distinction is certainly not the fruit of chance, but the result of our constant determination to continually improve ," declared Philippe Augé, President of the University of Montpellier.

The UM, a successful excellence in Sustainable Development Goals

Within this ranking, UM stands out for the "health and well-being" MDG, occupying 30th place worldwide and first place in France. The UM also progressed on the "aquatic life" ODD from 33rd place to 30th in the world, (2nd in France), once again demonstrating the UM's excellence in ecology. Finally, the University of Montpellier ranks 77th worldwide (5th in France) on the "decent work and economic growth" MDG, as well as 67th worldwide (3rd in France) on the "reducing inequality" MDG, placing it among the best French establishments. These results show that the company's policy of social responsibility is at the heart of its concerns.

For Agnès Fichard-Carroll, vice-president in charge of training and university life at the Université de Montpellier and head of the gender equality mission, " this remarkable ranking recognizes the UM's genuine commitment to meeting a wide range of sustainable development objectives. It represents recognition of the collective work and dedication of our teams in serving the community and, more broadly, society ".
