Taunton, MA - Mayor Shaunna O'Connell is pleased to announce the Taunton Area Vietnam Veterans Association (TAVVA) will serve as Grand Marshals for the 2024 Taunton Christmas Parade, scheduled for Sunday, December 8, at noon.
Established in 1983 by a dedicated group of Vietnam and Korean War Veterans, TAVVA is committed to supporting Veterans, promoting understanding of the Vietnam War's legacy, and ensuring continued remembrance of those who served. The organization actively works to keep the memory of fallen and missing service members alive and supports families across Taunton.
TAVVA's community involvement is demonstrated year-round through activities like POW/MIA Remembrance Day, flag-raising ceremonies, Memorial Day wreath-laying, and the well-known May Chicken BBQ and summer Cruise Nights. Their work has strengthened ties between Veterans and the broader community, fostering respect and unity.
"It means a great deal to us to be recognized in this way. Being part of the Taunton Christmas Parade is not only an opportunity to represent the Vietnam Veterans of our community, but also to remind everyone of the sacrifices made by all our service members and their families. We are deeply grateful to Mayor O'Connell and the City of Taunton for this recognition," said TAVVA Vice President Dennis Proulx.
As Grand Marshals, TAVVA will lead a parade that promises to be one of the most memorable events of the holiday season. Floats, bands, and community groups will follow their lead down Broadway, all coming together in festive cheer as they approach Taunton Green. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to come out, celebrate the holiday season, and honor TAVVA's exceptional service and dedication.
