Rehabilitation works are being launched at the Lakbe reservoir.

As part of the reclamation infrastructure projects, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Otar Shamugia, along with Mr. Giorgi Aladashvili, the State Representative in the Kakheti Region, and Mr. Gela Samkharauli, Chairman of the Agrarian Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, inspected the ongoing rehabilitation works on the ''Lakbe Reservoir''.
Georgian Amelioration LLC is implementing a project worth GEL 3.6 million in Gurjaani municipality.

"One of our top priorities is the rehabilitation - modernization of irrigation systems. We carry out large-scale work throughout the country.

The ongoing project on the Lakbe reservoir ensures its safe operation; within the project, the reservoir volume has increased by approximately 600 thousand cubic meters, which is crucial for providing water to the land areas connected to the reservoir, particularly during the dry season. Moreover, we have received tremendous funding from four different financial institutions, totalling more than USD 300 million.

The mentioned investment will serve the implementation of significant, large-scale projects in the country. Our efforts will increase next year, which is essential for each farmer, regarding boosting output and improving the crop quality," said Mr. Otar Shamugia.

Mr. Samkharauli addressed the ongoing reclamation works in the Kakheti region, stating that 14 projects worth around GEL 37 million are being implemented this year, which is crucial for agricultural development in the region. According to Charman, given the current climate changes, it is hard to produce excellent products without a reliable water supply.

The reclamation works on the Lakbe Reservoir will ensure its proper functioning and improve the water supply in the left main channel of the Kvemo Samgori irrigation system. Consequently, 2755 hectares of agricultural land will be irrigated, considerably increasing yields.

The rehabilitation works started in the fall of 2023 and will finish by the end of this year.
