"California is responding to consumers and the public by developing greater transparency in how we grow and produce our food," said CDFA Secretary Karen Ross. "Collaboration is key in developing a process that will be respected by growers and consumers alike."

In November 2023, DPR released a proposed regulation that would support the statewide implementation of a notification system by requiring electronic submission of select information from Notices of Intent (NOIs) for permitted applications to DPR and requiring DPR to make the information it receives publicly available. Following the public comment period (70 days) and three regulatory hearings, a proposed modification to the regulation is currently opened to public comment. Background on Development of the Notification System

The proposed modification to regulation - Statewide Notification of Agricultural Use of Restricted Materials.

"As a grower who lives on the farm, it's important to note the care and dedication all farmers have to our working lands, labor force and local communities," said President Don Cameron, California State Board of Food and Agriculture. "We operate in a state that is the most forward leaning in regard to the protections when it comes to pesticide use. We need to ensure that further advances in these protections do not negatively impact farm operations."

The California State Board of Food and Agriculture advises the governor and CDFA secretary on agricultural issues and consumer needs. The Board conducts forums that bring together local, state and federal government officials; agricultural representatives; and citizens to discuss current issues and concerns to California agriculture.
