Water Service Update – Konza Water District Outage October 29

Water will be off for a small area of the Konza Water District starting at 9:00 am Tuesday, October 29th. Water will be shut off for approximately 3 hours for planned maintenance on the system.

Customers in the affected area include Lafayette Drive and Oak Valley Drive in south Riley County. They have been notified directly.

Due to a reduction in water pressure during the outage, the affected area, shown below, will be under a Boil Water Advisory until notified conditions are safe. A water sample will be sent to KDHE to ensure the temporary low pressure did not allow any bacteria into the water system.

What to do during a boil water advisory in Kansas:

  • Boil water: Boil water for one minute before drinking or using it for food preparation.
  • Use bottled water: Use bottled water instead of tap water.
  • Dispose of ice: Throw away ice cubes and don't use ice from an automatic icemaker.
  • Flush water lines: If your tap water looks dirty, run the water until it clears.
  • Disinfect dishes: Soak dishes and other surfaces that touch food in clean tap water with one teaspoon of unscented bleach per gallon of water for at least one minute.
    1. Dishwashers are safe to use as long as they have a sanitizing cycle.
  • Bathe/Shower with caution: Water used for bathing usually doesn't need to be boiled, but supervise children to make sure they don't swallow any water.
  • Take care with pets: Use boiled or bottled water for pets, and take the same precautions for them as you would for humans
