49 incoming Southeastern legacy students to receive scholarships through Legacy Fund

Southeastern Oklahoma State University will distribute scholarships to 49 Legacy students in 2024-25, thanks to donations to the Legacy Fund.

Incoming students who indicated Legacy status - either the child or grandchild of a Southeastern alumnus - prior to the required deadline, will receive a scholarship for the 2024-25 academic year. This is the first distribution of Legacy scholarships since the creation of the Legacy Fund.

"Southeastern has 115 years of history and tradition, educating and graduating students who are proud to be part of the Savage Storm family. Our unique environment has proven to be magnetic to our alumni, and we're so pleased that their children and grandchildren come back to Southeastern year after year, continuing a fantastic legacy," said Dr. Thomas W. Newsom, Southeastern President.

"Our vision when we started the Legacy Scholarship Fund a year ago was to award a limited number of scholarships in the first few years as we build the fund. Because of the generosity of alumni, donors and friends we are able to make this an automatic scholarship to all of our Legacy Freshmen in year one. We hope that through additional donations, this fund will continue to grow and continue to be able to fund scholarships for all of our future Legacy freshmen."

The Legacy Fund was established in 2023 with a generous establishing endowment gift from the Southeastern Foundation and support from the Southeastern Alumni Association. A percentage of each donation to the Legacy Fund, based on the giving level, will help grow this fund with the vision that it becomes an automatic scholarship for all Legacy freshmen.

"Our Southeastern Legacy is important, and a gift to this fund not only directly supports future students through scholarships but supports our Vision 2040 Strategic Plan and campus operation and facility improvements," said Dr. Newsom. "I encourage those that want to celebrate and continue their personal or family legacy at Southeastern to continue to support this fund."
