Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board to Participate in National Night Out Programs Across the Commonwealth

​​Harrisburg - The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) will participate in National Night Out™ events across the state this year, reaching thousands of young people, parents, and community leaders and spreading a message against underage and dangerous drinking.

The PLCB has participated in National Night Out events at dozens of locations statewide by distributing materials on PLCB programs, including Know When. Know How.^SM, an award-winning campaign that helps parents talk to their children about the dangers of underage drinking. PLCB Bureau of Alcohol Education staff will offer material for children and provide informational brochures about alcohol-related issues.

On Tuesday, Aug, 6, the PLCB will join National Night Out events at:

• Peddler's Village, Lahaska, Bucks County, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
• Adams Ricci Park, Enola, Cumberland County, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
• Christian Life Assembly Church, Camp Hill, Cumberland County, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
• Willow Park, Camp Hill, Cumberland County, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
• Courtyard Apartments, Philadelphia, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM
• Fox Chase Elementary School, Philadelphia, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
• JFK Recreational Complex, Pottsville, Schuylkill County, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM

National Night Out, "America's Night Out Against Crime," began in 1984 as an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, and neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. National Night Out is held annually on the first Tuesday of August. The program expects more than 38 million people in about 17,000 communities in all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian communities, and military bases worldwide to participate this year.

The PLCB works to reduce underage and dangerous drinking through a variety of efforts. The agency conducts more than 2 million age verification checks annually at Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores, offers training and certification for licensees and their employees through the Responsible Alcohol Management Program (RAMP), awards dozens of grants annually to partners in prevention, hosts a free educational conference on alcohol-related issues, offers an award-winning training for resident assistants on college campuses, and collaborates with communities and organizations throughout the commonwealth dedicated to the prevention of alcohol abuse.

The PLCB regulates the distribution of beverage alcohol in Pennsylvania, operates about 600 wine and spirits stores statewide, and licenses 20,000 alcohol producers, retailers, and handlers. The PLCB also works to reduce and prevent dangerous and underage drinking through partnerships with schools, community groups, and licensees. Taxes and store profits - totaling nearly $20.3 billion since the agency's inception - are returned to Pennsylvania's General Fund, which finances Pennsylvania's schools, health and human services programs, law enforcement, and public safety initiatives, among other important public services. The PLCB also provides financial support for the Pennsylvania State Police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement, the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs, other state agencies, and local municipalities across the state.
