Golam Mathbor, Ph.D., interim dean and professor in the School of Social Work, has been appointed president of the North American and Caribbean Association of Schools and Social Work (NACASSWA), representing the U.S. region of the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW).
In addition to this role, Mathbor will serve as vice president of the IASSW. His four-year term for both positions will run from 2024 to 2028.
As president and vice president, Mathbor will play a key role in shaping the organizations' vision, fostering collaboration among global and regional social work institutions, and promote innovative practices that address pressing societal challenges.
Mathbor's additional responsibilities include strengthening NACASSWA's growth, participation, and affiliation with IASSW; representing IASSW at international forums and events; overseeing specific portfolios and projects; and contributing to the governance and operational efficiency of the organization.
NACASSW is a regional body of the IASSW and encourages cross-country collaborations and sharing of educational methods and materials and promotes faculty development at the regional level.
IASSW promotes the development of social work education throughout the world, develops standards to enhance the quality of social work education, encourages international exchange, provides forums for sharing social work research and scholarship, and promotes human rights and social development through policy and advocacy activities.
