As temperatures begin to cool, Oklahoma Gas & Electric Company (OG&E) is encouraging customers to see if they qualify for the Residential Energy Efficiency program, which provides upgrades and enhancements that make homes more comfortable during extreme temperatures and helps customers save on their electric bills. The program comes at no additional cost to qualified customers and includes a wide range of home improvements worth thousands of dollars.
This week, OG&E's energy efficiency team visited the home of Dan Lucas, a resident of Oklahoma City, to make energy-saving improvements in his home.
"My wife and I were eager to weatherize our home before the colder weather hits and were happy to learn about OG&E's Residential Energy Efficiency program," said Dan Lucas, who recently participated in the program. "I was amazed to hear that they offer this service to homeowners like us to help cut down on electric bills and increase energy efficiency at no extra cost. It is frustrating to know you have drafty doors and windows, it is basically money going right out the window. OG&E's help with weatherstripping, caulking, and other work will help keep our home warmer this winter and will save us some money in the long run."
Improvements can include adding attic insulation, sealing air leakage around windows and doors, duct sealing, and installing energy-saving light bulbs.
"As it continues to get colder across our service area, taking steps to weatherize your home is key to staying comfortable and combatting the impact of extreme temperatures on your electric bill during the summer and winter," said Toney Cooper, lead program manager at OG&E. "OG&E is making that easier for many of our customers by providing energy efficiency services at no additional costs. Our work at the Lucas's home is a great example of how simple improvements can make a living space more comfortable and monthly bills more manageable."
OG&E offers energy efficiency programs for all customers who qualify. The company recently achieved a significant milestone by enhancing the homes of nearly 50,000 customers experiencing low income. In Oklahoma, the program is offered at no additional cost to all residential customers who own or lease a single-family, duplex, or mobile home. In Arkansas, the program is offered at no additional cost to all residential customers whose homes are more than 10 years old.
