Tarmac recently hosted six officers from the Corp of Royal Engineers, who are currently studying at the Royal School of Military Engineering Brompton Barracks, at its Silvertown concrete plant. The full-day event provided the officers with an in-depth look at RMX Concrete as a construction material solution as well as valuable industry insights.
Guided by Tarmac experts Joe Kirwin, Dan Warren, and Kelly Ebbs, the officers gained first-hand experience in concrete production, exploring plant operations, discussing concrete technology, and participating in a CPD session focused on CEVO, Tarmac's low-carbon concrete solutions. The visit allowed attendees to further understand Readymix Concrete (RMX) production, quality control processes, and advances in sustainable concrete options.
This collaboration highlights Tarmac's commitment to supporting the armed forces community and fostering career pathways for military personnel. Given the success of the event, both Tarmac and The Royal School of Military Engineering are keen to make this a regular training opportunity, allowing future officers to explore career options within the construction sector.
Joe Kirwin, Commercial Manager London & South East Readymix at Tarmac, commented: "It was great to host Officers from the Corp of Royal Engineers and showcase the innovative work we do at Tarmac. With my own military background, I understand the importance of bridging military expertise with industry experience. This visit really highlighted how we can support in preparing Armed Forces personal for successful engineering careers."
Alex Soles, Civils Lecturer, at MKC Training, The Royal School of Military Engineering, added: "A special thank you to Tarmac for a well-organised technical training day and site visit at the Silvertown concrete plant. The Officers gained valuable insight and context into industry practices, quality control, innovation and sustainability. All aiding the soldiers on their way to MEng qualifications and CEng status. The technical expertise and experience from the Tarmac team was first class and we very much look forward to joining you again in the future."
This initiative aligns with Tarmac's broader commitments to the Armed Forces community, including its active support of the Armed Forces Covenant. By providing unique training opportunities, Tarmac not only reinforces its commitment to supporting future careers but also contributes to career pathways that benefit the wider community.
