FLINT-Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-08) today announced new federal funding to support nurses who care for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence.

The $499,431 grant, awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will help fund the University of Michigan-Flint's sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) program, which trains nurses to provide high-quality, compassionate care to survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence.

"Our nurses play a critical role in caring for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence," said Congressman Kildee. "I'm proud to support the University of Michigan-Flint's work to provide our frontline caregivers with the resources they need to support survivors and strengthen our communities."

"This new grant award allows us to continue to provide comprehensive training and resources to improve the physical and mental health of survivors of sexual assault, domestic and intimate partner violence in rural and medically underserved areas across Michigan. The specially trained nurses this grant supports are not just caregivers-they are crucial advocates for survivors of sexual, interpersonal or domestic violence, ensuring each person receives high quality compassionate and comprehensive care.
