Looking ahead, and looking back, to Huntsville’s large tree planting events

On most calendars, it's the holiday season. On the Huntsville Green Team calendar, it's tree planting season.

After planting about 300 trees in Brahan Spring Park at the Mayor Tommy Battle's annual tree planting on Nov. 2, another tree planting is set for Saturday, Dec. 7, from 10 a.m. to noon at Cavalry Hills Community Center.

Hundreds of trees are set to be planted at Cavalry Hills. The trees are funded by the Inflation Reduction Act and the USDA Forest Service. Green Team invites all volunteers to participate, and no experience is necessary. You can stop by at any time during the event to help plant a tree.

"We are also grateful for the funding that makes this project possible at Cavalry Hills. It's a great opportunity to help our community and it's a lot of fun, too."

About 300 people attended the Mayor's tree planting, which was held for the first time in Brahan Spring Park.

The Cavalry Hills tree planting will help beautify areas around the walking track and playground while providing an array of urban benefits.

"These tree planting events not only help beautify Huntsville but it's great for community spirit," Mayor Battle said. "We encourage everyone to come out to Cavalry Hills to help plant trees. It will be a rewarding experience."
