As we push further into the era of quantum utility, it's crucial that we empower quantum researchers and developers to do useful work on the IBM® quantum hardware we have today. That means building powerful, high-performance software to help users extract the greatest possible value from utility-scale quantum computers. Equally important, it also means ensuring developers and researchers have opportunities to get hands-on experience with the latest tools and services.

That's why we're thrilled to introduce IBM Quantum Developer Conference 2024, an exclusive, first-of-its-kind event taking place in person at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, N.Y. from 13-15 November 2024. This event will bring together developers from all over the world to preview forthcoming updates to the IBM Quantum roadmap and get hands-on demos of state-of-the-art IBM Quantum software tools.

The theme of the inaugural IBM Quantum Developer Conference will be Performance by Qiskit - highlighting the Qiskit software stack's industry-leading performance, modularity, and capability for enabling utility-scale work.

Who should attend

Any member of the quantum community can apply to attend IBM Quantum Developer Conference 2024, but space is very limited for this inaugural event. For this reason, we ask that all prospective attendees submit an application to be considered for admittance. Our team will review all submissions and offer invitations to a select group of applicants.

Our selection criteria prioritizes active Qiskit users who have substantial experience working as a researcher or developer in the field of quantum information science and engineering. In particular, we're looking for quantum developers, engineers, researchers, computational scientists, educators, students, and any other quantum computing professionals or enthusiasts who feel they might be a fit.

Applications are open from now until 30 September 2024. We will begin notifying selected applicants beginning the week of 12 August 2024. If you would like to attend IBM Quantum Developer Conference 2024, we advise you to submit your application as soon as possible. Doing so will increase your chances of securing an invitation to the event.

If your application is not selected, or if you are unable to attend due to travel and scheduling limitations, don't worry! We will release all materials and announcements shared at the event, as well as recordings of all presentations, to our global quantum community as soon as they are available.

What to expect at IBM Quantum Developer Conference 2024

In many ways, IBM Quantum Developer Conference is an evolution of previous events like IBM Quantum Summit. We've always been committed to finding different ways of bringing the quantum community together. By shifting to the new Quantum Developer Conference format, we hope to underscore the importance of utility, and of driving useful work.

For those who attend the event, our goal is to get you working hands-on with our latest tools and connecting with IBM researchers, engineers, and other experts right away. To achieve this, we're developing an agenda specially tailored for experienced users of the Qiskit software stack. IBM Quantum Developer Conference will provide you with hands-on experience using the tools needed for mapping use cases to quantum circuits and executing these circuits on hardware, optimizing the quality of results while balancing runtime costs.

Day one of the event will be anchored by our annual quantum state-of-the-union address delivered by Jay Gambetta, VP of IBM Quantum. Each year, the quantum state-of-the-union reveals major announcements of progress made along our quantum roadmap, with previous editions debuting milestone achievements like the IBM Quantum System Two™, the 133-qubit Heron processor, and Qiskit v1.0.

During the rest of the three-day event, you'll have your pick of technical talks, collaborative workshops, office hours, and in-person lab tours as well as ample opportunities for networking with researchers, engineers and experts from IBM and the broader quantum community. Along the way, you'll learn how to integrate the latest Qiskit software tools into your current workflows, and discover how these new tools can deliver remarkable performance advantages.

IBM Quantum Developer Conference is not just about the tools we unveil there, or the technologies we discuss. It's also about discovering how our community and ecosystem will use those resources to drive real-world impact for quantum advantage. We hope to see you there!
