Notice of Resident Death at Central Detention Facility

NOTICE OF RESIDENT DEATH AT CENTRAL DETENTION FACILITY

On Sunday, September 15, 2024, at approximately 5:46 a.m., DC Department of Corrections (DOC) security personnel found resident Benjamin Robertson (35), of Washington, DC, who was assigned to an on-unit work detail, unresponsive in the gym area of his unit at the Central Detention Facility. Immediate life-saving measures were performed by DOC staff and medical personnel. DC Fire and EMS also responded to continue life-saving efforts; however, Mr. Robertson was pronounced dead at approximately 6:35 a.m.

Mr. Robertson was being held on a Murder II charge pending in DC Superior Court. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death. The incident is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department and the DOC Office of Investigative Services.
