LIVONIA, MICH. - In a demonstration of commitment to inclusive education, Madonna University's Instructional Design and Development (IDD) department recently celebrated "Fix Your Content Day," honoring three faculty members who have made significant strides in improving course content accessibility.
Dave Piasecki, Nermine Atteya, and Anne-Marie Sladewski were recognized for their collaborative efforts to enhance the accessibility of their Blackboard course materials. Working closely with IDD staff, these educators have taken important steps to ensure that course content can be effectively accessed by students of all abilities and learning styles.
The initiative goes far beyond mere regulatory compliance. At its core, the project reflects Madonna University's fundamental mission of respecting the dignity of each individual. Research indicates that many students with disabilities do not disclose their specific needs, making proactive accessibility measures crucial.
"Creating accessible content online is not just about meeting requirements," said Steve Hudec, Madonna's Website Administrator. "It's about creating a more inclusive and user-friendly experience for everyone. It's the right thing to do!"
By improving content accessibility, these faculty members are helping to remove barriers to learning and ensure that educational materials can be easily understood and engaged with by all students, regardless of their individual needs.
