ERIA President Pays Courtesy Visit to Republic of Korea's Minister of Trade

Seoul, 26 August 2024: ERIA President Tetsuya Watanabe paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Cheong Inkyo, the Republic of Korea's Minister of Trade, in Seoul on 26 August 2024.

During the meeting, the two leaders exchanged views on the economic landscape in Asia, emphasising the importance of collaboration amongst think tanks to foster regional development.

President Watanabe expressed his appreciation to Minister Cheong for his strong support of ERIA since its inception and acknowledged his valuable contributions to several ERIA research projects during his tenure as an economist at the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP).

Minister Cheong commended ERIA's role in the region, expressing his pleasure in witnessing its growth over the past 15 years. He reaffirmed the Republic of Korea's commitment to strengthening ties with ERIA and supporting its initiatives.

President Watanabe also conveyed his gratitude to Minister Cheong for his visit to ERIA earlier in July. The meeting concluded with both parties exploring potential avenues for future cooperation.
