Scammers have updated their tactics to defraud customers, and Independence Power & Light is alerting customers to these new schemes.
Scammers visiting Independence customers' homes, posed as Evergy representatives and said IPL is merging with Evergy. These impersonators then requested payment for a new meter.
IPL is not merging with Evergy and an IPL employee will never visit a customer's home, or business, and ask for payment.
With the increase in scams coming through calls, texts, emails, and now door-to-door tactics, IPL is warning customers to stay vigilant. Here are some ways to identify an IPL employee or an Evergy employee.
If you receive a suspicious phone call or in-person visit, contact IPL immediately at 816-325-7930. After calling IPL, report suspicious activity to the Independence Police Department.
