UC to celebrate 100th anniversary of Nippert Stadium dedication all season

CINCINNATI - Cincinnati Athletics will commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the dedication of Nippert Stadium during the entire 2024 football season, celebrating the life of stadium namesake Jimmy Nippert as the Bearcats' season-long theme. The celebration will take center stage Nov. 9, 2024 when the Bearcats face former BIG EAST rival West Virginia on Carson Field.
Fans are invited to visit GoBearcats.com/Nippert for digital storytelling efforts throughout the season, and to share their own memories of Nippert Stadium, which has connected UC fans for generations.

Nippert was a center and captain on the 1923 football team when he sustained an injury on Thanksgiving Day against rival Miami (OH). He fell ill with blood poisoning and died on Christmas Day. Nippert's grandfather--James N. Gamble, son of the Procter & Gamble co-founder--donated $250,000 for the completion of the stadium.
Today, Cincinnati debuted a memorial shield, which will be featured throughout the 2024 season. Fans will have the opportunity to purchase apparel featuring the mark when it becomes available at retailers both in-store and online later this summer.
Nippert Stadium was officially dedicated on Nov. 8, 1924 before kickoff of a game against Oberlin. Members of the Nippert family joined UC staff, players from both teams, and representatives from universities in the region in a ceremony at the memorial in the south end of the stadium.
James Gamble Nippert Memorial Stadium had a capacity of 12,000 when it was dedicated. Cincinnati football has played at the current site since 1901. Construction began on the permanent seating structures surrounding Carson Field in 1915 before the fully completed stadium was finished and named in 1924.
Today, Nippert Stadium stands as the centerpiece of the University of Cincinnati's campus. Through several renovations, the stadium has modernized to feature suite levels and a press box in addition to premium seating. It now seats just under 40,000 fans, but remains in the middle of campus, adjacent to the Tangeman University Center. Nippert Stadium's turf is open to all students for recreation when not in use by the football or lacrosse teams for practices or games.
Various football season graphic elements and marketing materials, including season tickets, will incorporate throwback designs that pay homage to Jimmy Nippert and celebrate the stadium's rich history.

Led by head coach Scott Satterfield, Cincinnati enters its second season in the Big 12. In 2023, the Bearcats ranked fifth in the country in rushing and return 1,000-yard rusher Corey Kiner and their entire offensive line. Cincinnati also brings back All-Americans: right guard Luke Kandra, nose tackle Dontay "The Godfather" Corleone and punter Mason Fletcher.
A pair of historic rivalries return to Nippert Stadium this fall with Pitt coming to town for the first time since 2012 and West Virginia heading to the Queen City for the first time since Isaiah Pead led the Bearcats to a 24-21 victory in 2009. Cincinnati will also open the season against Towson, host Arizona State for the first-time ever and TCU for the first time since 2004. Additionally, Houston returns to Nippert Stadium for the first time since the Bearcats' 35-20 victory in the 2021 AAC Championship.
