Legendary Trumpeter to Take Stage, Share Hotel Tales at County Museum

Tuesday, July 23, 2024

Hurleyville, NY - On Sunday afternoon, August 4, from 2-4 p.m., trumpeter Freddie Jacobs will perform at the Sullivan County Museum with the Americana band Little Sparrow.

Jacobs is a composer, educator and jazz trumpeter who has been in the music business for over 50 years. He has toured with jazz legends Lionel Hampton, Buddy Rich, Eddie Palmieri and Jimmy McGriff, and performed around New York with the Sam Jones/Tom Harrell Band and Pucho and the Latin Soul Brothers. He has also written and produced two records: "Time Change" and "Jacobs' Ladder."

Jacobs spent many years living in Sullivan County, and he will talk a bit about his experience performing in the legendary Catskills hotels. Locals may remember his family who ran the Monticello movie theatre at the Shoprite plaza.

Little Sparrow plays the music of the '60s and '70s. They are a multi-generational band featuring recent Sullivan West High School graduate Henry Simon on guitar. The group is noted for their spirited performances, distinctive harmonies, and guitar-centric jams.

This free concert is sponsored by the Frederick Cook Society. Refreshments will be served, and donations are always welcome.
