The DMACC Foundation will host the 2024 Shrimp and Bingo Scholarship Fundraiser in support of the DMACC Water Environmental Technology (WET) program.

WHO-TV NBC 13 Chief Meteorologist Ed Wilson will emcee this year's event to be held Saturday, August 24 at the FFA Enrichment Center on the DMACC's Ankeny Campus.

"We are thrilled to host the Shrimp & Bingo Scholarship fundraiser in support of DMACC's Water Environmental Technology Program," said DMACC Foundation Executive Director Tara Connolly. "This event is a fantastic opportunity for our community to come together, enjoy a night of fun and great food, and most importantly, invest in the future of our water industry. The generosity of our sponsors and participants directly contributes to the education and training of tomorrow's water professionals."

The Shrimp and Bingo fundraising event started in 2012 with 80 people in attendance. More than 200 people attended the most recent Shrimp and Bingo event, which raised more than $21,000 for scholarships. Since the inception of the event, 505 WET scholarships have been awarded.

As the name implies, an all-you-can-eat shrimp dinner, served with corn-on-the-cob, red beans and rice, Andouille sausage and a dessert bar, takes place prior to an evening of BINGO. Prizes are awarded throughout the evening for BINGO winners. In addition, an open-bar beverage service is held until the last BINGO winner is announced.

The event is open to the public. The cost is $100 per person or $800 for a table of eight. The registration deadline is Friday, August 16. Tickets will NOT be sold at the door.

Registration and a social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the FFA Enrichment Center at 1055 SW Prairie Trail Parkway in Ankeny. The shrimp feast and BINGO will start at 6:30 p.m.

DMACC's WET program offers comprehensive training for water and wastewater management. DMACC Water Environmental Technology Lead Instructor/Program Chair Anthony Tonarelli said there are an abundance of jobs in the WET field that need to be filled immediately.

"Water treatment plant operator, wastewater treatment plant operator, water distribution system operator, wastewater collection system operator, environmental compliance specialist, water quality analyst/technician, utility technician and hydrology technician are just some of the career options available to students who complete DMACC's WET program," said Tonarelli.
