MTC’s Jarding appointed to state board of nursing

Carena Jarding, director of the nursing programs at Mitchell Technical College, was recently appointed to the South Dakota Board of Nursing.

Jarding, whose nursing career began 24 years ago, prides herself on a thorough understanding of "the art and science of nursing," a philosophy she said originated with the mentors who modeled it during their careers.

Jarding spent nine years in patient care before carrying her passion for the field into academia, first as an instructor, and now as program director of Mitchell Tech's Licensed Practical Nursing and Registered Nursing programs.

"During her time at the bedside, she developed a love of mentoring new nurses and nursing students," according to the South Dakota Board of Nursing's quarterly publication, South Dakota Nursing News.

According to the organization's website, the South Dakota Board of Nursing's mission is "to protect the public through the regulation of nursing licensure, practice and education, in accordance with" South Dakota nursing laws. Its vision is "to inspire public confidence in the profession of nursing through regulatory excellence and honoring human dignity." Jarding serves on the board's two-member nursing education committee, along with Dakota Wesleyan University Administrative Chair of Nursing Penny Tilton.
