Murphy is an attorney in Taft's Employment and Labor Relations, Litigation, and Appellate groups. He represents clients in a broad range of complex legal disputes in all stages of litigation in state and federal courts. Murphy has successfully represented employers against claims of wage and hour violations, discrimination, and other disputes, as well as competitors in disputes involving alleged violations of non-competition and non-solicitation agreements, trade secrets theft, and unfair competition.

Murphy played an important role in securing pro bono client Walter "Tracy" Hill's release from jail after he had spent seven years in custody for an aggravated kidnapping and murder he could not have committed. Taft recognized Murphy with its firm-wide 2023 Pro Bono Award because of this victory.

Murphy joins previous Taft Chicago honorees who have been selected by Law Bulletin, including Elizabeth Babbitt (2023), Payal Keshvani (2022), Liz Butler (2021), Jonathan Amarilio (2018), Roshan Shrestha, Ph.D. (2016), A. Thomas Skallas (2013), Michael Jurasek (2010), and Ian Fisher (2008).
