Fact of the Week: Over 13 Percent of Firms That Use Artificial Intelligence Have Expanded Their Workforce

Commentary: Despite fears that the mass unrolling of artificial intelligence will replace workers, data from the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics prove otherwise. According to a dataset analyzing the 97,227 firms that use artificial intelligence "somewhat, a little, or a lot", most firms (66 percent) saw no impact in the total number of workers employed, while 13.7 percent of firms experienced an increase in total employment. Only 6.9 percent of firms experienced a decrease in the size of their workforce. The skill level of workers employed increased in about one quarter of all firms (26.7 percent). Yet, the majority of firms again reported that artificial intelligence had no impact on the skill level of employees.
