Weekend track work and service information for Indigenous Peoples' Day and Columbus Day

This weekend, buses will replace trains on parts of the Red Line for track work. On Monday, Metro will run on a holiday schedule for Indigenous Peoples' Day and Columbus Day.

This weekend crews will work to replace switches, remove vegetation, maintain gates, and perform cable insulation testing. The repairs will require station closures at four Red Line stations: Shady Grove, Rockville, Twinbrook, and North Bethesda.

Local and express shuttle bus service will replace trains from Saturday, Oct. 12 through Monday Oct. 14 between Shady Grove and Grosvenor-Strathmore.

On the Orange and Silver lines, Metro is replacing crossties and insulators and repairing fences. Orange and Silver trains will single track Saturday - Sunday between McLean/West Falls Church and East Falls Church.

On Indigenous Peoples' Day and Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 14, Metrorail will open at 5 a.m. and close at midnight, operating on Saturday frequenciesat all stations. Metrobus will operate on a Saturday supplemental schedule. MetroAccess customers may make a reservation to travel on the holiday; however, subscription trips will be canceled.

Service Information

Red Line

Saturday-Monday: Trains run between Grosvenor-Strathmore and Glenmont every 8 minutes before 9:30 p.m. and every 10 minutes after 9:30 p.m.

Shady Grove, Rockville, Twinbrook, and North Bethesda will be closed.

Shuttle bus service will be provided between Shady Grove and Grosvenor-Strathmore.

Blue, Orange, and Silver lines

Saturday through Sunday: Blue, Orange, and Silver Line trains run every 15 minutes.

With trains single tracking between East Falls Church and West Falls Church on the Orange Line and East Falls Church and Mclean on the Silver Line.

Monday: Blue, Orange and Silver Line trains run every 12 minutes.

Green and Yellow lines

Saturday through Monday: Green and Yellow Line trains run every 8 minutes.

Parking will be free at all Metro-owned parking lots and garages during the weekend and on the holiday.

Metrobus

Buses will operate on a Saturday supplemental schedule.

  • All subscription trips will be canceled Monday. 
  • Customers wishing to travel on the holiday should make a separate reservation onlineor by calling 301-562-5360 (TTY 301-588-7535).
