Roae Named Republican Chairman of House State Government Committee

HARRISBURG - State Rep. Brad Roae (R-Crawford/Erie) today announced he has been selected to serve as the Republican chairman of the House State Government Committee for the 2024-25 Legislative Session. This is the second consecutive session he has held this position.
The House State Government Committee is responsible for reviewing legislation dealing with all aspects of state government, including proposed amendments to the Pennsylvania Constitution, statewide initiatives and referenda, the Public Official and Employee Ethics Act, the Regulatory Review Act, legislative redistricting, Election Code reform, lobbyist disclosure and campaign financing.
"I'm honored to be selected to again chair this important committee," Roae said. "After the most recent election where some counties tried to make their own rules, I hope election integrity legislation is prioritized. This includes proving citizenship to vote, mandating identification when voting, creating more expansive audits of election results, increasing the insignificant $20 per day fine for candidates who intentionally file late campaign finance reports to hide the money raised and spending until after the election. In addition, I believe mail-in voting should be suspended until 2028 in order to pass laws creating uniformity in how elections are run in all 67 counties in order to ensure county commissioners on election boards do not try to count illegal votes.
"My other priorities for the coming session include making English the official language of Pennsylvania, eliminating extreme gerrymandering that split the 50,000-person city of Harrisburg into three different legislative districts and selling vacant and unneeded state property quicker," Roae added.
"Finally, under the Democrat majority last session, about half of all votes during House State Government Committee meetings were meaningless on non-binding resolutions to name days, weeks and months after various people, groups, things, events, etc.," Roae said. "I will try again to get the Democrats to focus on actual legislation that makes things better for Pennsylvania's residents."
When legislation is introduced in the state House, the speaker assigns it to one of the various standing committees. The majority committee chairman may then call hearings and decide whether or not the bill is worthy of consideration by the full House of Representatives.
Roae served on the State Government Committee for 10 years and is very knowledgeable on the issues. In addition, this is the third House committee Roae has chaired. He previously led the Commerce and Consumer Affairs committees in prior sessions.
