Your Space, Your Backdrops: Turn Any TV into a Work of Art with Roku — For Free

Elevate your home entertainment with thousands of iconic pieces of art at your fingertips

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Sept. 4, 2024 - All it takes is one click and Backdrops, Roku's newest feature, will transform your TV into a canvas, with paintings and photography from an evolving library of thousands of curated works. Backdrops brings beautiful art into your space, making your TV a true reflection of your home.

In the coming weeks, Backdrops will roll out to Roku TV models with a catalog that includes famous classics, wide-ranging museum collections, abstract designs, and more. Viewers can also cycle in photos from their personal collection, to display on the largest screen in their home. Whether you want to relive that unforgettable sunset you captured or showcase a favorite piece of art, the choice is up to you.

"Our TVs are more than a device for streaming shows and movies-they can now elevate the aesthetic of any room, with the ease of one click," said Brian Pinkerton, SVP of Advanced Development at Roku. "Now, our customers can turn any TV screen into a conversation piece, and even better, it's free."

With Backdrops, you can enjoy your TV even more by:

· Creating a gallery of your favorite art and photography

· Setting the amount of time each image is displayed or changing the image brightness to match the mood

· Using your voice to turn Backdrops on or off with ease

· Choosing a pre-generated gallery of your go-to artist, museum, and more

· Learning more about the artwork, including artist name, year it was created, and a brief description

Enabling Backdrops is simple. Roku TV users can start through Settings or via the Backdrops app, which will automatically show up on the app grid once the feature is available. When Backdrops is enabled, users can click the power button or start Backdrops manually to show their desired artworks, instead of seeing a black screen while the TV is off.

Backdrops will roll out over the next few weeks starting with Roku-branded TVs and third-party Roku TV models. Roku streaming players and streambars will receive Backdrops later in the fall.
