Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital renovates breast center

ARLINGTON, TEXAS, DEC. 3, 2024 - The breast center at Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital is undergoing an estimated $2 million renovation.

The project includes refreshing mammography rooms, creating patient changing and dressing areas and building a serene biopsy room. Other enhancements include reconfiguring the reception area and refurbishing family and patient waiting areas.

The renovation is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2025.

The breast center serves more than 9,000 people per year through screening mammograms, ultrasounds, radiology and other services. Most patients are between 40 and 80 years of age. "We are dedicated to meeting the needs of our patients," said Blake Kretz, FACHE, president of Texas Health Arlington Memorial. "This renovation is part of our continued focus on providing safe, high-quality care and consumer experiences to North Texans."

Texas Health Arlington Memorial has long ties to the community that date to its creation in 1956. It was built and opened in 1958. In 1997, it became part of the Texas Health system. The campus has about 14,000 hospital stays per year, about 100,000 outpatient visits and about 71,000 visits to the emergency department. The hospital became designated Level III Trauma Center in 2023. The hospital is also certified by the Texas Department of State Health Services as an advanced Level III Maternal and Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Refreshing and expanding medical spaces as the community grows is part of an ongoing effort by Texas Health. For example, several projects at the hospital are in different stages, including expansion and renovation of the hospital's pharmacy which is expected to be completed in early 2025.

Future growth plans include renovation and expansion of the Women's Center including refurbished labor and delivery patient rooms, refreshed family and patient waiting areas and transforming existing triage areas to private obstetric emergency rooms. Construction is expected to start in the first quarter of 2025.

"These expansions are just one way we are partnering with residents from Arlington and its surrounding communities for a lifetime of health and well-being," said Kirk King, Texas Health Hospital Channel chief operating officer.
