ERO Boston removes Brazilian fugitive wanted for rape in home country

BOSTON - Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston removed a 40-year-old Brazilian national charged with rape in Brazil. Deportation officers from ERO removed Marcio Dos Santos from the United States to Brazil May 31 and handed him over to Brazilian authorities.

"Marcio Dos Santos attempted to flee a rape charge in Brazil by hiding out in Connecticut," said ERO Boston Field Office Director Todd M. Lyons. "He posed a threat to the residents of our community, and we could not allow that to continue. The men and women of ERO Boston are the best in the business at finding noncitizens who don't want to be found. We will continue to prioritize public safety by arresting and removing the most egregious noncitizen offenders from New England."

U.S. Customs and Border Protection admitted Dos Santos into the United States in Newark, New Jersey, March 11, 2022. Dos Santos violated the terms of his admittance.

Deportation officers with ERO Boston's Hartford field office arrested him Feb. 14 near his residence in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and served him with a notice to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge.

On March 25, 2024, the DOJ immigration judge ordered Dos Santos removed from the United States to Brazil.

ERO conducts removals of individuals without a lawful basis to remain in the United States, including at the order of immigration judges with Department of Justice's Executive Office for Immigration Review. The Executive Office for Immigration Review is a separate entity from the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Immigration judges in these courts make decisions based on the merits of each individual case, determining if a noncitizen is subject to a final order of removal or eligible for certain forms of relief from removal.
