​King of Prussia, PA - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 12, for a project to improve traffic flow and safety on Route 73 (Church Road) at Greenwood Avenue and Rices Mill Road intersections in Cheltenham Township, Montgomery County.

Under this contract, PennDOT's contractor will add turn lanes at the intersections of Route 73 (Church Road) and Greenwood Avenue. Left turn lanes will be added on Route 73 (Church Road), and a northbound right turn lane will be added on Greenwood Avenue. The traffic signals on Route 73 (Church Road) at Greenwood Avenue and Rices Mill Road will be interconnected. Drainage in the area will be improved, and a new stormwater management system will be installed. Additionally, the sidewalk will be extended along the north side of Route 73 (Church Road) from Rices Mill Road to Greenwood Avenue. Environmental mitigation efforts related to the Curtis Arboretum will include the removal and planting of trees, stockpiling and salvaging of wood for repurposing, stone wall reconstruction, and seeding and re-vegetation of disturbed areas within the Arboretum.

Beginning Monday, August 12, through Tuesday, November 12, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Route 73 (Church Road) is scheduled to be closed and detoured weekdays between Route 152 (Limekiln Pike) and Washington Lane. During the closure, motorists will be directed to use Route 152 (Limekiln Pike), Easton Road, Route 309 (Ogontz Avenue/Cheltenham Avenue), and Washington Lane.

Local access will be maintained up to the work zone. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Allan Myers, LP of Worcester, Pennsylvania, is the general contractor on the $10,824,555 project which is financed with 100 percent federal funds. Physical construction on the project is expected to finish in fall 2027.
