Lowndes Co SR 31 traffic moving to new I75 overpass

SR 31 Traffic Scheduled to Move to New I-75 Overpass
What: A contractor plans to move State Route (SR) 31/Madison Highway traffic from its current alignment to the new bridge over Interstate 75 (Exit 11). The new overpass is part of the reconstruction of the interchange, which is a $37 million blended federal, state and Transportation Investment Act (TIA) funded project. The old twin bridge overpass is being replaced by one bridge with two lanes in each direction and left turn lanes for traffic entering I-75 north and south. Roundabouts are being constructed at the I-75 ramp termini. Reconstruction of the interchange will improve safety for the traveling public and provide additional capacity for future growth. The entire project is currently scheduled to be complete in late spring of 2025.

Where: SR 31/Madison Highway at the I-75 Exit 11 interchange in Lowndes County.

When: Traffic is scheduled to move to the new overpass alignment Thursday, Sept. 12, weather permitting. This is a congested area and is still an active construction site so please slow down as you approach and travel through.
