Regents roundup for July 2024

Chancellor Domenico Grasso provided the following university updates:

• Professors Hafiz Malik and Alireza Mohammadi secured a $1 million NSF grant that will be used to develop a reliable technology for authenticating electronic devices to reduce the spread of counterfeit parts and prevent unauthorized sales of excess manufactured components. Since May 1, more than $4.5 million in external research funding has been secured.
• Enrollment projections look to be meeting or exceeding forecasts this fall with positive trends in our new first year, transfer, graduate and returning students segments.

The following regular appointments were approved:

Joint or additional appointments or transfers of regular associate or full professors and selected academic and administrative staff.

• Danielle L. DeFauw, chair, Department of Education, CEHHS, effective July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2027 (also professor of education, with tenure).

• Jie Shen, interim chair, Department of Computer and Information Science, CECS, effective Sept. 1, 2024 through Dec. 31, 2024 (also professor of computer and information science, with tenure).

• Onur Ulgen, three-year term, Sept. 1, 2024 through Aug. 31, 2027

• Aaron C. Ahuvia, three-year term, Sept. 1, 2024 through Aug. 31, 2027

The Regents also approved the hiring of non-tenure-track clinical appointments in the College of Education, Health, and Human Services. This policy establishes a procedure whereby highly qualified professionals can be appointed to the CEHHS faculty to serve and enhance the college's continually evolving programmatic needs such as sports management. Other colleges on campus, and in Ann Arbor, have a long history of such appointments.
