RCMP charge Amherst man for sexual offences against a child

The RCMP Provincial Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit has charged a man in Amherst for sexual offences against a child.

On June 25, the RCMP ICE Unit, assisted by Amherst Police, and the RCMP Digital Forensic Services, executed a search warrant on a residence in Amherst. Investigators were directed to the residence after a notification from the National Child Exploitation Crime Centre (NCECC) in December of 2023.

As a result of the search and subsequent investigation, Lee Jerald James Legere, 36, of Amherst, has been charged with Luring a Child and Making Sexually Explicit Material Available to a Child

Legere was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Amherst Provincial court on August 26 at 9:30 a.m.

In Nova Scotia, it is mandatory for citizens to report suspected child pornography. This means that anyone who encounters child pornography material or recordings must report it to the police. Failing to report suspicious activity and materials could result in penalties similar to failure to report child abuse set out in the Child and Family Services Act. The RCMP encourages citizens to be a voice for children who are victims of sexual exploitation by reporting any suspected offences to your local police or by using Canada's National tip line for reporting online sexual exploitation of children at www.cybertip.ca.
