Lincoln Police Investigate Three Separate Shootings

The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) is investigating three shootings in the city and is requesting the public share information with law enforcement regarding two ongoing investigations. At this time, LPD does not believe the incidents are related.

On Sunday, September 8, around 1:30 a.m., officers in the downtown area were alerted to a fight in the 100 block of North 11th Street.

Upon arrival, officers located two men with gunshot wounds. Both were taken to an area hospital to receive emergency treatment. One victim, a 24-year-old Lincoln man, is currently in critical condition. The other, a Lincoln man in his forties, is considered stable with non-life-threatening injuries.

This investigation is ongoing and Lincoln Police request anyone with information, including video recordings of this event, to contact the non-emergency number at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600 if they wish to remain anonymous.

On Saturday, September 7, around 11:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of 33rd and Holdrege Streets on report of gunshots heard. Upon arrival officers located one victim, a 20-year-old Lincoln woman, with gunshot wounds. Lincoln Fire and Rescue personnel took the victim to a local hospital for treatment, and her condition is reported as being stable.

Officers are currently seeking a suspect as part of an active investigation. This investigation is ongoing and Lincoln Police request anyone with information, including video recordings of this event, to contact LPD.

On Saturday, September 7, just after 7:45 p.m., officers responded to a weapons violation in progress in the area of N. 20th Street and Cornhusker Highway. Upon arrival, the caller told officers that 51-year-old David Blackburn of Lincoln had just shot multiple rounds at the building after the two had gotten into a verbal altercation.

Officers observed an occupied vehicle to have a bullet hole on the rear passenger side. Officers located six bullet holes in the exterior wall by the door where the caller exited from. Officers contacted Blackburn at a nearby hotel with the firearm and he was arrested.

Blackburn was taken to the Lancaster County Jail for:

1. Attempted 2nd Degree Assault 28-309(F3A)
2. Use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony 28-1205 (1)(B)(F2)
3. Discharge Firearm near vehicle/building 28-1212.04 (F1C)
4. Terroristic Threats
