DEBATE RECAP: Austin Theriault Sees No Issue with States Banning Abortion

During tonight's second debate in Maine's 2nd Congressional District, Austin Theriault wasn't shy about admitting that he sees no issue with states banning abortion.

States around the country have already passed draconian abortion bans threatening women's health and livelihoods - yet Austin Theriault still thinks state politicians like him should make health care decisions for women.

Just last week on the debate stage, Austin also blatantly dismissed protecting Maine women's abortion rights: "Let's get back to the issues that matter."

Theriault has repeatedly made clear that women can't trust him to protect their reproductive rights by:

  • Pledging to restrict abortion access statewide.

  • Voting against protecting reproductive freedoms for women in complex medical situations.

  • Voting against bills to fund family planning services and to keep access to abortion care during health care providers' mergers or acquisitions.

  • Supporting Republican Party bosses in Washington - including Chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee Richard Hudson (R - Theriault's Home Base), House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer of Minnesota and House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik of New York - who are leading the GOP's crusade against women's abortion rights.

DCCC Spokesperson Ellie Dougherty:
"Every time Austin Theriault takes the debate stage, he further proves that he can't be trusted to protect Maine women's reproductive freedoms."
