NJIT Celebrates Alumnus Robert Cohen at Tri-County Scholarship Fund's 43rd Annual Awards Dinner

Robert Cohen, chair of NJIT's Board of Trustees and president of Stryker's Digital, Robotics, and Enabling Technologies organization, will be honored at the Tri-County Scholarship Fund (TCSF) 43rd Annual Awards Dinner. This event is set for Oct. 28, 2024, at The Legacy Castle in Pompton Plains, New Jersey, and will gather more than 800 attendees.

Robert Cohen, a three-time NJIT alumnus, will receive the Hall of Fame Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the medical device industry and his dedicated support of education.

"We are honored to recognize Robert Cohen with the Hall of Fame Award for his remarkable career achievements and his commitment to advancing education. His leadership and innovative spirit inspire our scholarship students to strive for excellence," said Prudence Pigott, president of TCSF.

NJIT President Teik C. Lim will introduce Cohen at the event. NJIT will also host a pre-reception for its supporters and the Tri-County high school students attending the dinner. This reception will highlight NJIT's role as a leading research university focused on practical and applied research and its dedication to preparing graduates for success in technology-driven fields.

The TCSF has awarded over 38,000 scholarships totaling more than $38 million to financially disadvantaged students in Morris, Passaic and Sussex counties since its inception in 1981. These scholarships enable students to attend high-performing independent schools, with TCSF students achieving a 100% high school graduation rate.

At Stryker, Cohen has spearheaded innovations in surgical procedures through the integration of robotics, navigation and digital healthcare solutions. With over 35 years of experience, Cohen has led advancements in orthopedics, joint replacement and implants. His extensive patent portfolio and global speaking engagements highlight his significant impact in the medical device industry.

Cohen's academic journey began at NJIT, where he earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and master's degrees in engineering management and mechanical engineering. His professional accolades include being a Fellow of both the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering and the National Academy of Inventors.

The Annual Awards Dinner is TCSF's largest fundraising event, celebrating individuals and organizations that embody the values of education and community service. In addition to Cohen, the event will honor Vincent Tizzio, CEO of Axis Insurance. Attendees will enjoy an evening of celebration, featuring remarks from honorees and inspiring stories from current and former scholarship recipients. This gathering underscores the transformative power of education and the significant impact of community support.
