Ways I Got Involved at Concordia University Texas

Becoming a Tornado is the first step. The next important step is finding your home within our community by getting involved with clubs, organizations, and attending on-campus events.

Joining Student Organizations and Groups

In my first year, I joined SGLA (Student Government Leadership Association), SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee), and Residential Scholars. Through these organizations, I collaborated with current students and staff to learn, advocate, and enhance the CTX student experience. SGLA focuses on being the voice of the student body and driving positive change at CTX. SAAC represents each varsity sport, acting as the liaison between our athletes, staff, and faculty, and advocating for our student-athletes. Residential Scholars is a program that supports incoming students while making attending the university more financially attainable.

Joining the Executive Team of Organizations

As someone passionate about community involvement and leadership, I decided to run for executive positions within the organizations I joined. This allowed me to extend the support I received in my first year to other incoming and current students. I am currently serving my second year as President of both the Student Government and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee because I love helping others and ensuring successful project management to make the student experience at CTX the best it can be.

Collaborating with Student Organizations

Concordia Texas has a wide variety of student organizations to join. All our organizations work together to support each other, whether through event advertising, co-hosting, or sharing information. Being a part of these organizations helped me integrate quickly into the community and contributed to the growth of event participation. Some of the organizations I've collaborated with include Student Activities, Residential Life, BSU (Black Student Union), and Trailblazers (a one-year program that provides a supportive community for first-year CTX students).

Joining an Athletics team

If you're an athlete interested in playing at the collegiate level, I highly recommend contacting our coaching staff to explore if collegiate sports are right for you! Committing to CTX Volleyball helped me make friends and build my community quickly.

For those interested in sports but not at the collegiate level, you can join intramural teams that run throughout the semester, offering activities like Ultimate Frisbee, flag football, and volleyball. Check out this page to see how to sign up for intramurals and follow our intramurals on Instagram for updates!

Attending School Events

Attending events such as sports games, Choir or Band concerts, Chapel, and holiday celebrations helped me meet new people outside my friend group and learn more about the campus community. It might feel overwhelming at first, but once you take the step, you'll realize everyone is there to have fun and support their peers.

Participating in school events

Taking part in events, not just attending them, helped me grow individually and within the community. CTX constantly seeks ways to engage students outside of classes by hosting various events such as:

  • Going to Pack the House Chapel
  • Singing Karaoke Station at the Christmas Tree Lighting
  • Competing in Persuasion Contagion
  • Dancing at Silent disco
  • Playing the Backyard games
  • Helping at Campus Cleanups
  • Being in the Mardi Gras parade
  • Dancing at the Luau Baseball Tailgate or in Chapel

When we take part in the school hosted events, we gain so much more from them and create fun and lasting memories! Find ways to get engaged with our community by following out socials @Concordiatx.

Becoming a Student Worker

On-campus jobs come with many benefits beyond just compensation. I currently work as a Junior Admissions Counselor and intern with the Ultraviolet Student Agency, where I get to communicate with current and prospective students. I've also worked as a referee for Volleyball Intramurals, ensuring safety and fair play, giving all participants a chance to compete for a trophy! Being a student worker has improved my communication skills and allowed me to connect with amazing people within the CTX community.
