Low-flying helicopter operation to take place this weekend in South Vancouver

Low-flying helicopter operation to take place this weekend in South Vancouver

July 26 2024 -

Starting tomorrow, there will be localized road closures and sidewalk restrictions on residential side streets near Ash Park to enable safe helicopter transport of industrial-sized air conditioning materials. Ash Park will remain open and there will be no impacts to traffic or pedestrian access on Cambie Street and SW Marine Drive.

HVAC system components, including a large air conditioning cooling coil, will be moved to and from the roof of a building at 8189 Cambie Street. Work is expected to be completed on Saturday, but there is potential for helicopter work and accompanying closures to extend into Sunday.

The helicopter operation will be coordinated by True Course Solutions. The operation will make four flights to and from the building. Weather permitting, each flight will take 10 to 15 minutes to complete and the largest piece of equipment being lifted will weigh approximately 6,500 pounds.

Access to residences and businesses will be retained while this operation is underway. However, residents and nearby businesses may experience intermittent noise from the helicopter as well as street and sidewalk impacts on Lord Street from W 65 Avenue to SW Marine Drive. Bus and SkyTrain service will not be affected.
