DPM Bečić participates in the Warsaw Security Forum

Deputy Prime Minister Aleksa Bečić participated in the Warsaw Security Forum on 1 and 2 October in Poland.

The first day of the Warsaw Security Forum, one of the leading European conferences dedicated to transatlantic cooperation, was opened by the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, the President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, and the Speaker of the Polish Parliament, Szymon Hołownia.

On the sidelines of the Warsaw Forum, Deputy Prime Minister Bečić held discussions with Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, Lord Vernon Coaker from the UK's Ministry of Defence, Catherine Ashton, former Vice President of the European Commission and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, as well as with prominent organisers of the Warsaw Security Forum from the Casimir Pulaski Foundation.

Emphasising the importance of developing joint responses to global security challenges, Deputy Prime Minister Bečić highlighted that Montenegro is making significant strides towards EU membership while achieving historic results in the fight against crime and corruption.

Through excellent cooperation and trust between the security sector, the prosecution, and international partners, we are recording outstanding results in combating all forms of crime. After receiving IBAR (Interim Benchmark Assessment Report), a major success and milestone on our European path, we are working intensely and diligently to close four chapters by the end of this year, making a significant step toward the finalization of our European journey. Political stability and the broad support the government enjoys in the Parliament, with a firm commitment to serve the full mandate until 2027, guarantee the continuation of the reform path and positive news from Montenegro. Montenegro in the EU by 2028, along with credible partnership in NATO, solidarity, and contribution to collective security and the fight against transnational crime, are our priorities, the Deputy Prime Minister said during his talks with counterparts on the first day of the Warsaw Forum.

Montenegro, our NATO ally and EU membership candidate, continues to have our support in its integration processes. Keep up the reforms, and we look forward to hearing more good news, said the foreign ministers of Latvia and Lithuania, both EU and NATO member states.

During the Warsaw Forum, one of the key topics was finding solutions to current security and defence issues, particularly in the context of European and global security. In his conversation with Deputy Prime Minister Bečić, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha expressed his gratitude to Montenegro for its continued support during these challenging times. "I thank you for the great help that the people of Ukraine feel and appreciate from Montenegro."

Zbigniew Pisarski, the founder of the Foundation, thanked the Deputy Prime Minister for his participation and expressed a desire to further develop cooperation and provide assistance in the security sector, strengthening partnership relations.

In addition to Deputy Prime Minister Bečić and the aforementioned presidents, the Warsaw Security Forum was attended by prime ministers and deputy prime ministers of governments, interior ministers, foreign ministers, defence ministers, as well as military personnel from over 90 countries, including ambassadors and experts in international relations and security.
