Offender's death ruled a homicide

An offender's death in January 2024 has been ruled a homicide, according to the N.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which issued its report this week.

An offender's death in January 2024 has been ruled a homicide, according to the N.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which issued its report this week.

Rasheen Younger (#0577765) died Jan. 14, at a local hospital after staff at Bertie Correctional Institution in Windsor discovered him unconscious and provided emergency medical care.

Information indicates that Younger was struck by another offender and fell backwards, hitting his head. The Windsor Police Department is investigating the case and the NC Department of Adult Correction is cooperating fully.

Younger, 44, was serving a 76-year sentence for a 1997 first-degree rape conviction in Pitt County. His projected release date was May 2, 2065.
