With the cooler temperatures and increasing moisture, CALFIRE has opened up the burning season here in Alpine County. Residents are allowed to conduct backyard burning under the approved procedures outlined in the guidelines put forth by Alpine County. Click here to see a detailed description of this process. Note that you must have obtained a permit through the CALFIRE burn permit website and notified the dispatch center of your intention to burn at your address. This will help keep everyone informed of your activities and ensure that a clearly defined process is followed to allow for backyard burning. Always remember to keep water on site and burn in safe conditions. When in doubt, put it out.
Residents will also notice that the prescribed fire operation has once again started at Turtle Rock Park to use the air curtain burner to dispose of the green waste collected during the fall season. We appreciate everyone's participation in this program and always encourage residents to use this alternative as opposed to backyard burning. As you see the folks who run the operation out and about, please shake their hand and show your appreciation for their hard work. The biomass collection site will be back open again in the spring for another round of greens waste disposal in preparation for next summer's fire season.
Bear Valley residents are also included in the burn permit process. Please check the guidelines for conducting burning in Bear Valley. As well, be sure to show your appreciation to the staff and volunteers at Bear Valley Public Safety for their efforts at the Bear Valley community burn pile and on the fuels reduction efforts in Bear Valley this year.
