The California State Fair is making history by introducing onsite cannabis sales and consumption for the first time, with the City of Sacramento providing authorization to ensure compliance with local regulations.
The 2024 California State Fair at Cal Expo runs from July 12 to 28. Onsite sales and consumption will be available on most days, with additional details and restrictions posted on the fair's website.
This year's event features a dedicated cannabis exhibit hall, a centralized sales section, and two separate consumption areas.
The California Cannabis Awards and Experience provides an interactive and educational exhibit celebrating the history, culture, and pioneers of cannabis in the state.
"The Legacy Market" booth offers a place where participants in the City's Cannabis Reinvestment and Equity (CORE) program and other equity businesses can offer their products. CORE participant and permitted dispensary Embarc Sacramento is hosting the sales.
The fair's "Cannabis Garden" allows for the inhalation and consumption of cannabis flower and concentrates. The "Back Porch" offers beverages, edibles, and topical applications for consumption, but smoking is not allowed.
To ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all fair attendees, please keep the following guidelines in mind:
"These guidelines are established to create a safe and responsible atmosphere for all attendees, while also promoting education and support for the cannabis community," said Davina Smith, who leads the City's Office of Cannabis Management. "Prioritizing safety and staying informed about the rules will ensure everyone can enjoy the festivities."
Organizers have worked closely with the City and equity businesses to ensure access and representation throughout the event.
